Luanne started her working career as a secretary. After 20 years, it was a time for a change. After a short career working in the Montgomery County, MD Library System, she decided to work in the beauty industry and got her Manicuring License. She then owned her own Nail Salon, before going on to earn her Cosmetology license. Her artistic abilities began to show in the beautiful nail designs she created for customers.
In 2002, her husband was transferred to Arizona. At the same time she and her husband built a home on the beach in South New Jersey. Luanne gave up her beauty career, and became a snowbird, going between New Jersey and Tucson, Arizona.
When a neighbor in Tucson showed Luanne her glass studio and the things you can do with glass, something stirred in her and she attended the first fusing class she could find. That happened as soon as she was able to get home and look in the phonebook for a glass studio. Luanne found a cute little shop in the NW part of Tucson. This was a stained glass studio called Creations in Glass, where glass fusing was being taught as well as many other glass-related classes. Luanne’s creativity blossomed.
Within two weeks, Luanne took her first class with Alysa at Creations in Glass, then another, and another. Glass and equipment began to spread throughout the garage. Designs By Luanne was born when Luanne’s husband suggested one day that she share her work with others. Now, with her husband’s help they have set up shops in NJ and AZ, and have expanded into beaded jewelry. In addition, her husband is working with stained glass to eventually expand Designs By Luanne offerings.
